Organisations which leverage the web as a medium for transacting with their customers must understand the importance of implementing a web application firewall (WAF). In particular, leading financial and healthcare organisations, as well as e-commerce sites and managed service providers all have started to realise the importance of protecting their web applications and databases, which contain sensitive customer and patient information.
Government initiatives such as the electronic service delivery are also driving local government authorities and other associated organisations to secure the data stored on their Internet facing systems. In addition, international regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley and PCI are steering companies to invest in products which make it easier to comply with these regulations.
