CLAS Consultancy

CESG recognised that there was an increasing demand for authoritative information security advice. This demand had come as a result of an increasing awareness of the threats and vulnerabilities that information systems are likely to face in an ever-changing world. In addition, specific demand came from:

• Organisations seeking to bring their networks into line with the Government Secure Intranet (GSI) requirements.
• Organisations addressing emerging security requirements associated with the eGovernment Information Age Government (IAG) initiative.
• The need to safeguard the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).
• The Cabinet Office requirement for public sector organisations to comply with the British Standard for Information Security Management: BS7799.
• Making 'government standard' Infosec advice more readily available to the broader public sector (local government, the health sector, police forces).
• Providing Infosec consultancy to the commercial and private sector.

Sapphire is able to provide consultancy services under the CLAS scheme. Given the sensitive nature of the consultancy projects Sapphire has been involved in, client names and details cannot be publicised.

The Communications-Electronics Security Group (CESG) is an agency based out of GCHQ in Cheltenham. It is the UK Government's technical authority for information security. CLAS is the CESG Listed Adviser Scheme - a partnership linking the unique knowledge of CESG with the expertise and resources of the private sector.

The scheme aims to satisfy this demand by creating a pool of qualified consultants, such as Sapphire, to provide information security advice to both public and private sector organisations who provide vital services for the United Kingdom.

Organisations handling HMG classified data, or organisations with HMG classified systems, are of a particular high risk to attack or compromise.

The CLAS service is specifically designed to provide confidence in the security of all systems.
